Modelling to inform decision-making in a complex, uncertain world
Under the aegis of CY Fondation, the Foundation for the Sciences of Modelling (FSM) brings together internationally recognized scholars to design and apply models that illuminate major contemporary challenges: global trade liberalisation, financial crises (subprime, sovereign-debt), digital transformation, the accumulation and use of big data, artificial intelligence, climate change, and pandemics such as Covid-19.
Our conviction is clear: meeting these challenges requires approaches that embrace system complexity and dynamic uncertainty.

Key objectives
- Extend our academic excellence beyond the university sphere around one theme: “Modelling to understand and respond to society’s grand challenges.”
- Activate synergies across modelling disciplines to amplify scientific visibility and societal impact.
- Strengthen our fundraising capacity through a structured strategy for competitive calls and public–private partnerships.
Associated objectives
- Deploy a coherent scientific policy within CY Tech on modelling topics, serving research-led education and training in and through research.
- Foster and deepen scientific collaboration between CY Tech and ESSEC Business School.
Governance
The FSM is guided by two bodies:
- Executive Committee – steers overall strategy, budget planning, funding-allocation decisions, and the establishment of the foundation’s definitive governance framework.
